Talking Dictionary Editor's Review

Talking Dictionary is a simple tool that can explain English words using the Microsoft Text-To-Speech engine. It has a built in dictionary of words. Each word is associated to one or more definitions and several synonyms.

If English is not your native language, you might have some trouble understanding the computer's voice. I installed the program on Windows Vista Home Premium, and the only voice that is available is called Mary. 'Talking Dictionary' allows you to set the speed of this voice. It's quite funny if you set Mary to speak fast.

Shortcut keys are provided for saying the word, the definitions, and the synonyms. There are also shortcuts for going to the next or previous definition.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: The "Spell" function only works for the words that are misspelled. Double clicking the application's icon in the system tray does not show the main window. You have to right click it, and select "Show dictionary".

In conclusion: This program is designed for Windows XP, but it also works on Vista. It works well, but it didn't impress me at all.
